Job Description
 
The Head of VFX is responsible for leading the creative and technical direction of the Toronto studio, ensuring the successful delivery of high-end visual effects for episodic and feature productions.
 
The Head of VFX will work closely with executive leadership to establish the operational, creative, and cultural foundations of the Toronto studio — including hiring strategy, pipeline development, and client engagement.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for production and network stakeholders, maintaining strong client relationships
  • Collaborate with leadership to define and implement the vision, culture, and strategic direction of the Toronto studio
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a world-class VFX team
  • Work confidently as an On Set VFX Supervisor and our lead in-house VFX Supervisor
  • Establish and oversee workflows, pipelines, and quality standards
  • Drive team performance and ensure timely, high-quality project delivery
  • Support business development efforts and build long-term client partnerships
 
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years in the VFX industry is required, encompassing both on-set and VFX in-house studio experience. This must include at least 5 years as an On-Set Supervisor and as the lead in studio VFX Supervisor or Head of VFX for major episodic and/or feature film productions.
  • Proven track record delivering VFX for premium productions (streaming, broadcast, or theatrical)
  • Established residency in Ontario, Canada
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings and work from the Toronto studio as needed
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills
  • Strong client-facing experience with confidence in high-level creative discussions
  • Passion for building teams, pipelines, and studio culture
  • Experience and willingness to work across international teams and time zones is a must
